and smooth-hewned pews.

adoring amidst whiffs
of spic and span sedans,
hot-waxed hatchbacks,
and Amoco gas.
They burn candles,
praising beneath purple and yellow
and blue and green
rainbow shades on cloudy panes
of Ugly Duckling glass,
making the shape
of a perfect Virgin
Mary.
