Looking · Summer Lopez

we took walks
in moonlight
in another time

he and I
we wished on stars
that had long ago died

we never spoke of the past

we put it in a dusty room
hid it under sheets
and blocked the door

but there it is
like a mud brick
baked under the sun

now we cannot look away
we look at it
and at each other

and we can find nothing to say.
